I Love... My Mum

As it's Mother's Day (well, it is in the UK!), today's 'I Love...' post could only be for my wonderful Mum. If you've read 'Confessions of a Wedding Planner', you'll already know a little bit about her but because I could, like most daughters, write a book about their fabulous Mothers, I thought write a little more about her here.

My darling Mum has always taught me 'treat others as you would wish to be treated' and because of her, I try to be kind, considerate and thoughtful. She coached me to see everyone's point of view - she used to take an opposite side to me in a discussion even if she agreed with what I was saying so I would have to take other viewpoints into account. She made school holidays amazing adventures - as a single parent, we didn't have buckets of spare cash for trips, jaunts and holidays but she could make a simple trip to feed the ducks special. She encouraged me, loved me unconditionally and poured the very best of herself into me.

When I started writing for newspapers in my teens, she would always find a way to get me to interviews with the various celebrities I managed to set up despite the fact she couldn't (and still can't drive). She watched me march with the Air Cadets and she packed me off to University (and didn't let me quit when I was having a tough time).

My oh-so special Mum is now an amazing Grandparent. 'Gramma' discusses Pokemon, plays with Match Attack cards and is adored by my son. She is everything to both of us.

So Mum, this is for you. To tell you I love you (even though I know I give you nightmares sometimes!) and to say that when I'm flying along and you say 'I don't know where you get it from' that I know. I get it from you. It's all because of you.

Oh, and now it's April, you only have to wait a few months before you can start Christmas shopping ;-)

Above - Me & Mum. She will hate me for posting this!
